Genesis Global Capital subsequently agreed to a $21 million SEC civil penalty to resolve those charges. Separately, the New York attorney general secured a $2 billion settlement with Genesis Global over fraud allegations, and Genesis Global Trading reached a settlement with the New York Department of Financial Services in January 2024, agreeing to pay an $8 million fine and surrender its BitLicense over compliance-program deficiencies. The Genesis restructuring was reported complete in August 2024, with distributions to creditors valued at around $4 billion on an in-kind basis.
