MtGox.com separately figures in a U.S. federal criminal case: in June 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Alexey Bilyuchenko and Aleksandr Verner with conspiracy to launder approximately 647,000 bitcoins allegedly stolen through the Mt. Gox hack. The DOJ notes that the indictment constitutes allegations only and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The @MtGox account deleted all of its posts when the exchange shut down in February 2014, and no verified subsequent account activity has been found.
