NFT.Storage is a public-good storage infrastructure project that was founded by Protocol Labs to provide verifiable, long-term preservation of off-chain NFT data using IPFS and Filecoin. NFT.Storage's Twitter Score is 23 out of 1000 as of August 2026, ranking #42,880 (top 10%) among 483,944 tracked accounts.
NFT.Storage launched as a free storage service in April 2021, giving NFT creators and minting platforms a standards-aligned way to store off-chain metadata and assets. It uses IPFS content identifiers for content addressing and Filecoin storage deals to ensure verifiable persistence. By March 2022, the service had crossed 50 million user uploads, with roughly 152 TiB stored on Filecoin and around 30,000 users at that point. The classic service ultimately accumulated over 680TB of NFT data before closing new uploads on June 30, 2024, though previously uploaded data remains accessible through IPFS and backed by Filecoin.
NFT.Storage became an independent entity in April 2024, separating from its original structure under Protocol Labs. It subsequently introduced a paid long-term preservation product backed by an on-chain endowment deployed on the Filecoin Ethereum Virtual Machine. However, the funding model for NFT.Storage Limited and the NFT.Storage Membership Community did not prove viable, and both began winding down in 2025. The PL Filecoin Impact Fund has taken over stewardship and preservation responsibilities for the project going forward. NFT.Storage has received backing from the Filecoin Foundation, Magic Eden, Titan Network, and web3mine, and maintains affiliations with Storacha and Lighthouse.
NFT.Storage has published 1,504 posts on the platform and has been mentioned by 36 accounts a total of 63 times, reflecting its reach within the NFT and decentralized storage communities.
