Playmint is an on-chain games and autonomous-worlds studio that was acquired by Cartridge in late 2025, having been founded by David Amor to explore decentralized technologies as a foundation for new kinds of video games. Playmint's Twitter Score is 23 out of 1000 as of July 2026, ranking #48,527 (top 10%) among 531,432 tracked accounts.
Playmint was founded in 2021 and built its early reputation around two titles. Its first published game, The Crypt, was described by the studio as the world's first fully on-chain cooperative multiplayer game. Its second title, Downstream, went further by allowing players to contribute code that extended the shared game world, with an initial version released in summer 2024. Alongside these games, Playmint developed Playerchains, a peer-to-peer DAG consensus architecture designed to enable trustless multiplayer without relying on a centralized server, demonstrated through a proof-of-concept called Space Shooter. The studio conducted its work in the open, publishing code as open-source software through its GitHub organization.
Playmint raised a $4 million seed round in April 2022, backed by BITKRAFT Ventures, 1kx, Cherry Ventures, Ethereal Ventures, and Play Ventures Future Fund. The studio has published 134 posts and has been mentioned by 36 accounts a total of 70 times.
