In 2020, the SEC filed an action alleging Ripple raised over $1.3 billion through an unregistered securities offering involving XRP. That action was resolved in 2025 by joint dismissal of appeals, with a final judgment imposing a civil penalty of approximately $125 million against Ripple remaining in place.
