Farcaster is a decentralized social network protocol built on Ethereum, co-founded by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan. The protocol uses a hybrid architecture, storing user identity onchain and data offchain through a peer-to-peer network of servers called Snapchain. Farcaster's Twitter Score is 494 out of 1000 (an Excellent rating) as of July 2026, ranked #358 (top 0.1%) out of 388,876 accounts, with 228,396 followers as of July 2026 and 1,688 posts published.
Farcaster's onchain contracts, including the Id Registry, Storage Registry, and Key Registry, are deployed on OP Mainnet. Every identity on the network is also a crypto wallet, enabling peer-to-peer payments, tips, NFT minting, royalties, subscriptions, referral rewards, and other onchain activity.
Farcaster raised $150M in May 2024 in a round led by Paradigm, with participation from a16z crypto, Haun Ventures, Union Square Ventures, Variant, Standard Crypto, and others. After going permissionless in October 2023, the protocol reached 350,000 paid sign-ups and a 50x increase in network activity by the time of the fundraise announcement.
Farcaster built its own client, Warpcast, while keeping the underlying protocol open for third-party applications. Neynar, Inc. provides cloud-based services for accessing the protocol and built the protocol's mobile and desktop apps. Governance operates on rough consensus and running code, with no binding voting process or official veto power. Farcaster has been mentioned by 2,098 accounts, with 7,026 total mentions.
Farcaster's ecosystem projects include Clanker.
