ZIPMEX is a defunct Asia-Pacific centralized digital-asset exchange that operated across Singapore, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand before regulatory actions and court-ordered liquidations brought its operations to a close. ZIPMEX's Twitter Score is 4.5 out of 1000 as of July 2026, ranking #192,533 among 531,432 tracked accounts.
ZIPMEX was co-founded by Marcus Lim and Akalarp Yimwilai. The exchange issued a native ERC-20 token, ZMT (the Zipmex Token), and announced a strategic investment from Polygon Studios, which included bridging ZMT to the Polygon network. In August 2021, ZIPMEX announced a Series B financing of over US$41 million. The exchange had previously been backed by Jump Capital, B Capital, TNB Aura, V Ventures, Krungsri Finnovate, Plan B Media, Master Ad, and MindWorks Capital.
ZIPMEX began unraveling in 2022 when it temporarily halted transfers between its Z Wallet and Trade Wallet, citing exposure to Babel Finance and the suspension of withdrawals by Celsius. The exchange suspended trading and deposits for all asset types effective November 25, 2023. On February 26, 2024, Zipmex Pte Ltd was ordered wound up by the Singapore court and a liquidator was appointed. Thailand's Minister of Finance revoked ZIPMEX's digital-asset exchange and broker licenses effective May 28, 2024, after the regulator found its financial condition could harm clients and that it had failed to complete ordered operational rectifications. The Thai SEC also required ZIPMEX to return client assets or place unclaimed assets in a trusted and secure system. Parent company Zipmex Asia Pte Ltd was voluntarily wound up on May 20, 2024, and on November 27, 2024, the Singapore High Court invalidated its creditors' meeting resolutions due to substantive irregularities, directing the court to appoint a liquidator.
ZIPMEX also faces legal proceedings in Thailand: the Thai SEC filed a criminal complaint against former Zipmex Thailand director and CEO Akalarp Yimwilai over alleged false statements or concealment of required information; as of the regulator's June 2024 FAQ, the matter remained under criminal procedure and had not resulted in a conviction. ZIPMEX's account has published 996 posts and has attracted 11,932 followers as of July 2026. ZIPMEX has been mentioned by 73 accounts a total of 196 times.
ZIPMEX's portfolio includes Chillchat Games now building Watch.fun, OpenHype, FWX and Ex Populus LAMO.
